Digipack Analysis: Mekaku City Days

Mekaku City Days is a digipack cover for the first album of the Kagerou Project. The album included the first thirteen songs of the series and I think that it is reflected with the cover of the digipack.

The illustration features a black and white styled background, with the characters on the cover filled in with black, hiding their identity. At this point of the series, not all the characters were revealed yet or their connection, so the digipack tried to conceal this fact to make the series more engaging as well as more buyable since people will be intrigued on why these characters are blacked out as well. It creates an air of mystery. The black and white also makes it look graphical and quite dramatic as it brings out an imposing image. This is quite important as the location of the background is very important and poses a major role in the story. It is most likely this was added to create some foreshadowing for the beholder and once they have seen it may be able to connect the dots.
